"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 (NIV) This is a verse that the people of Possum Trot, TX. reflected on when they chose to adopt 72 of the toughest kids from the foster-care system. This is a true story of how God used this tiny town of 300 people to spark the conscience of our nation.
Small Town, Big Miracles, written by Bishop W.C. Martin, shares about the children that came to them. They weren't cute little Gerber babies. They were rough, tough, right-off-the-street kids. The children lied, cheated, manipulated, and stole from the families. But as Martin goes into detail about their lives before adoption, one can begin to understand the behaviors of these children.
Bishop Martin introduces you to a few of the families; people who are considered real-life heroes. For instance, the Browns. They are grandparents, with already-grown kids, that decided to adopt two year old TRIPLETS! (Yes, you read that right....Triplets!) Another hero is Diann Sparks, who is a single working mom who chose to adopt two boys as her own.
As you read the book, you will find yourself caring and loving each family so dearly. The book has inserted photos of the adopted parents and children, which helps you connect to them even more.
Small Town, Big Miracles, is a must read for everyone. You will not be able to put it down and will probably have it read in a day or two. I have given this book to many people including my grown biological children. Just don't blame me, if you change your mind about adoption. HA, just kidding. I'm just a vessel for God and pray that this book will encourage you as much as it did me.
